Valderrobres

Valderrobres is our main base, and where our Aragon off road motorbike tours are run from. An hour's drive inland from the Costa Daurada in north-eastern Spain, in the province of Teruel in Aragon, and set in an unspoilt backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty, Valderrobres is one of the great undiscovered gems in the Spanish countryside. The capital town of the Matarraña district, a little known area of Aragon, commonly known as "The Tuscany Of Spain", with a lush, verdant landscape of ancient olive and almond groves, immaculate vineyards, refreshing mountain streams with crystal clear waters and natural swimming pools. Rich in culture and architecture, Valderrobres has been classified as one of the most beautiful towns in Spain by the Spanish Government. The immaculately conserved "pueblo viejo" - the old part of town, is picture-postcard, and has many authentic Spanish cafes, restaurants, and tapas bars serving traditional country food at very modest prices - the perfect setting to unwind in after a day out on the bikes.

In contrast with the crowded Spanish costas, with the constant heat and humidity, Valderrobres sits at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, on the edge of the Els Ports Natural Park. In every direction, dirt trails lead out to typical Spanish rural villages and more incredible countryside, all looking not too different from how it looked a long time ago.

Several airports can be used for Valderrobres, with Barcelona and Valencia airports both about a 2 hours 30 minutes drive. The smaller airports of Zaragoza, Castellon and Reus are closer at about 1 hour 45 minutes or less, but flight choice there is much more limited.

It's an hour's drive from the Mediterranean coast, and an hour from Motorland racing circuit, used for the Aragon MotoGP every September, as well as other major events throughout the year..

The weather in Valderrobres

Valderrobres enjoys a temperate, semi-mountainous climate. Warm in the summer, but because of the altitude of 500 metres above sea level and the much lower humidity, the climate is far more bearable than at the coast or further south in Spain. When it's 40 degrees plus there, it's less than 30 in Valderrobres, which is why so many Spanish riders head here in summer. Perfect offroad biking weather.

Cold winter mornings with pure blue cloudless skies soon lead to temperatures of mid-teens by mid-morning. What could be better?
